Brathwaite, Uta L,. was born on April 22, 1933 to th elate Cecil Edwards of Grazettes, St. Michael and the late Ada (Denny) Griffith of Baywood, St. James, Barbados. Raised in Baywoods, St. James, Barbados, Uta was a quiet and loving child. 

She received her early education in Barbados. Uta was married for fifty eight years to Leroy E. Brathwaite, who passed on March 6, 2016. Although an only child, Uta was blessed to have six children, Cosmo, Paula, Annmarie, Sherdley, Venita and Shelly. 

Uta was an active member of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Orange Hill, Barbados. She sang in he choir and served wherever needed in he church and in the community. When she immigrated to the United States, she worshipped at First Holiness Church in Cambridge. However later on she attended Family Life Fellowship in Hyde Park, MA giving continuous praise to her God. 

Uta was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a terrific cook who prepared many delicious meals for her family and those she loved. Uta's love for family was so great that it extended to other families who received her generous love in caring for heir children. She taught her children to love God. She lived a wonderful life!

Uta passed peacefully on December 25, 2017 at the Faulkner Hospital with her children by her side. She leaves to celebrate her legacy her children, Cosmo, Paula, Annmarie, Sherdley, Venita and Shelly; ten grand children and fifteen great grand children, special friends the Porte Family, and a host of family and friends in the United States and in Barbados. 

Uta will be missed dearly and she will live forever in our hearts. 

Visitation with family on Saturday, January 6, 2018 from 10-11 AM at Family Life Fellowship Foursquare Church, 28 Arlington Street, Hyde Park, MA 02136.

Celebration of Life service will start at 11 AM also from the church. Interment will follow to Oak Lawn Cemetery 427, Cummins Highway, Roslindale, MA.
