Donald McNair JR. Obituary

Donald “Donny” R. McNair Jr., 63 of Abington, MA entered eternal rest on Monday, April 1, 2024, in the comfort of his home. He was born in Manhattan, New York on October 10, 1960. He was one of 3 children born and one adopted by the late Donald and Gladys McNair.

Donald met and married Claudette Steele and had two children from this union; Crystal Steele and Carlene McNair and three grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Donald studied at Rhode Island school of Design and pursued his Associate Degree in Graphic Design at Pratt Institute. He gained experience printing while working as a prepress technician at a book manufacturer plant. He believed in living life with a purpose and helping those in need. This was evident by his act of service at the New Bedford Housing Authority’s Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency program, and before fully retiring, the Brockton Salvation Army serving and giving back to the community. Donald was always kindhearted, genial, and a man after God’s own heart. Donald faithfully served as a Deacon at the House of Prayer #5 Apostolic Church of God.

Donald was a self-taught, prolific artist who possessed the gift of capturing and creating beauty through various artistic expressions including but not limited to photography, painting, sketching, and digital art. However he was able to share his gift with the world, he did with a cheerful heart. His work held remarkable depth and intricate detail.  Some of his artwork can be found at Fine Art America.

His hobbies were fishing, familiarizing himself with the latest electronics, and collecting antiques. He also enjoyed making scrumptious macaroni and cheese, his decadent banana pudding made with his mother’s recipe, and his unique apple-pineapple pie.

Donald is predeceased by his parents Gladys McNair and Donald McNair Sr, and 2 siblings Arlester McNair and Gloria McNair Caesar. Donald is survived by his daughters Carlene McNair and Crystal Steele; three grandchildren, Camarra Steele, Jamaud Steele, and Cairah McNair; his sister Martha Davis; niece Latavia Goss; grandniece Tomyrah Stovall, and other relatives and friends.
