Lidia Andrade Gomes de Pina

de Pina, Lidia Andrade Gomes, originally from Fogo, Cabo Verde, passed in Lawrence, Massachsetts on December 21, 2018.

She was predeceased by her parents Antonio Gomes and Helena Andrade, and her beloved husband Joao de Pina. 

She was a loving mother to six children and also raised thirteen others, Apolinário de Pina (deceased), Antónia de Pina, Maria de Lurdes Gomes Batista, Manuel de Conceição Gomes Cabral Andrade, António Carlos Gomes, José Vaz Cardoso, Maria Isabel Gomes Semedo, João Andrade Gomes de Pina, Maria do Rosário Gomes de Pina, Paulo Jorge Gomes de Pina, Eloisa Helena Gomes de Pina, António Andrade Gomes de Pina, Gisela Andrade Gomes de Pina, Mena, Fatinha, Antoninho (deceased), Cacá (deceased), Hélio Gomes, and more.

Lídia was a generous and loving soul. She loved to give even when she didn’t have for herself. She was the definition of hospitality. She provided accommodations to many families who migrated to Praia from Fogo and those who continued traveling on to foreign countries. Many took residence at her house without asking. She loved to feed people, even if it meant she would go hungry. She also loved music and dancing. Her favorite music was funaná, and her favorite artist was Zé Spanhol.

Lídia is survived by 12 children, 36 grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, a brother, Pedro Andrade, and a sister, Maria Lopes. 

Visitation with family on Friday, December 28, 2018 from 6-9 PM at St. Patrick Church, 400 Dudley Street, Roxbury, MA 02119.

Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 10 AM also from the church.  Interment will be at New Calvary Cemetery, Harvard Street, Mattapan, MA 02126.
