Maria DosSantos

Maria Dos Santos born in Brava, Cabo Verde to Zeferino and Maria Soares, passed peaefully in Newton, Massachusetts, surrounded by her loving family on January 2, 2020.

Known to everyone as “Nha Bia” or as the “Candy Lady.” She was the mother of Teresa Barbosa, Joseph “Djandjan” Dos Santos, Fatima “Fafa” Lee and Joachim “Jack” Dos Santos. She is the sister of Maria Jose “Djedje”, Jose from Brava, the late Bitinho, Kin, and Joao.

She leaves behind her grandchildren who love her dearly: James, Nadine, Belinda and Erick. She leaves behind family members from all over the Cabo Verde islands. She was more than a mother, sister and grandmother. She was everyone’s friend. She will leave a void in the community that she loved and truly devoted her life to. She left her beautiful mark on this earth with the hundreds of Sunday school students she taught, her Saint Patrick family, the poor and the homeless that she helped when in need. Nha Bia was an angel who lived here on this earth, a teacher, and a giver, her entire full life. The world will miss her generous hands and her pure soul.

Visitation with family will be Wednesday, January 8, 2020 from 5-8 PM at St. Patrick Church, 400 Dudley Street, Roxbury, MA 02119.

Funeral Mass will be Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 10 AM also from the church. Final resting place will be at New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan, MA.
