Maurice Alves Obituary

Alves, Maurice of Boston, Massachusetts passed on September 13, 2019.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts on September 10, 1929. Maurice was a first-generation Cape Verdean and a true Bostonian.  Raised in Boston from youth he grew to find his life’s calling as a loving husband, father and independent business owner. Genuinely a self-made man, Maurice worked his way up in an upholsterer shop where he became a Master Upholsterer. With his goals set on becoming an entrepreneur he went into business for himself. Maurice owned and operated a successful upholstery   business for many years.

Meeting his wife Mabel in his early twenties, they soon began a  loving marriage which spanned over 63 years. Maurice was the  father of eight devoted children, Andrea Thomas (deceased),    Maurice Alves, Jr. of Holyoke, Robert Eddins Alves of Brockton, Bruce Alves (deceased), Denise Alves of Boston, Dorothea White of Medford, Sandra Gikunoo of Deland, FL and Fidell Alves of Brockton whom he raised with unwavering love and support. He was blessed with twenty-six grandchildren and many great grand-children and is deeply loved by all. He was often called   GeeGee, Grampy and G-Pa by his grandchildren.

He was the youngest son of seven siblings Gwendolyn Luck (deceased), Clarence Alves (deceased), Vincent Alves (deceased), June Angelo (deceased), Helen Kennedy (deceased), and Theresa Alves of Marshfield born to Fidell Alves and Mamie (Taylor) Alves.

In life he enjoyed being with family and friends especially in times of celebration.  He was an excellent cook and people would come from all over to break bread with him.  His greatest past-time was listening to music and dancing. In all, Maurice had a full and complete life.  He was always the life of the party and lived life to the fullest.  He will be dearly missed by those who knew him near and far.

Son to the late Fidell Alves of Cabo Verde and Mammie Taylor of Virginia.

He leaves his beloved wife Mabel Alves. Patriarch of the family he also leaves his legacy, his children Maurice F Alves Jr, Robert C Eddins Alves (wife Lucy), Denise G. Alves, Dorothea A, White (husband George), Sandra Alves Gikunoo (husband Daniel) and Fidell F. Alves (wife Janine). He was blessed to have twenty six grand children. He leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to cherish his memories.

He was predeceased by his daughter Andrea L. Thomas and son Bruce A. Alves.
