Our beloved Cecilia Gomes Pires (87), affectionately known as "Chia," passed away on December 26, 2025, surrounded by family.
Cecilia Gomes Pires was born on January 14, 1938, in São Lourenço-Fogo, Cabo Verde, she was the daughter of Rosa Da Rosa Gomes and Guilhereme Gomes.
In 1995, Cecilia and her husband, Clarimundo Santos Pires, immigrated to the United States in search of better opportunities for their family. Family grounded her—she was the heart and strength across generations.
She is survived by her eight children: Tereza, Ilisabete, Joao, Dulce, Maria, Inacia, Neta, and Jose. Her legacy also includes 51 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren,
6 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous extended relatives and friends.
Cecilia was truly one of a kind. She chewed "erba" (tobacco), enjoyed pontchi, and loved flowers and music. Everyone left her home with a "benson" (blessing). She loved playing and joking
with her children and grandchildren and always cared deeply for every family member.
She was devoted, kind, generous, strong, and honest. She spoke her mind when needed, yet always brought peace, showing her forgiving heart. Cecilia’s love for church, the rosary, and sharing telenovelas and quiet moments with family created cherished memories that live on.
Cecilia is also survived by her siblings Maria Da Luz and Tatinha. She now rests peacefully in heaven, reunited with her husband Clarimundo, daughter Paulina, and siblings who passed before her.
As she always told us: “Deus bai ku bô, Virgem Maria bai bu diante.” Cecilia, your love lives in our hearts, your lessons live in our lives, and your spirit will walk with us forever.
Rest in eternal peace.
