Charles Moore Obituary

Charles Edward Moore, affectionately known as Pops, Papa, Granddaddy, and Uncle Charles, was born on May 28,1944 to the late Jessie Hunter Moore and Abner Moore Sr. in Merritt, North Carolina. He was the brother of tight-knit family of 21 siblings.

Charles spent most of his childhood and teenage years working on the farm and helping support his family. He received his education at Pamlico County Training School and was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Merritt, North Carolina. He later moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the mid 1960s to start his adult life.

During his time in Boston, Charles met Brenda and they later married. Together, they had two children: Keith and Sheila. His career in Boston was mostly spent in the transportation industry where he worked as a cab driver for the Independent Taxi Operators Association for 9 years and worked as a bus driver for 17+ years with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Charles loved to drive and participated in many bus rodeos bringing home 1st and 2nd place trophies. Outside of competing in bus rodeos, he loved being the grill master at his family cookouts, competing in bowling competitions, watching his favorite westerns, but spending time with his “girls” was the most fulfilling - he loved being a Papa.

Charles joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Brockton, MA and served as a faithful volunteer over the years. He was a dedicated member of the Trustees Board, Emergency Food Program, and the Usher Board. He looked forward to dressing up in his 3-piece suits and greeting his church family every Sunday with a smile, handshake, joke, a look away and sometimes a good eye roll. Charles was a kind hearted person who loved to make people laugh. His humor was his superpower and was truly a lifelong bringer of joy.

Charles is proceeded in death by his parents, Abner and Jessie Hunter Moore, sisters, Angelia Moore Guion and Pamela Sales, and brothers, William P. Moore, Abner Moore Jr., Wallace Earl Moore and Alvin Moore Sr. as well as his loving son, Charles Edward Moore, Jr. He leaves to cherish his precious memories; his loving and devoted wife, Brenda Wornum-Moore, four children: Kimberly Yevette Moore, Cristal Denise Moore Chadwick (Billy), Keith Edward Moore (Alexis), Sheila Yvette Darius (Evens), and seven grandchildren; A’Niya Charlé Moore, Jade Wellington Moore, Jalise Jordan Wellington Collins (Jayden), Ava Madison Taylor Moore, Maci Eve Darius, and grandchildren of the heart Quwamay Ford (Lia) and Casey Ford.
