Chenault Terry was born on August 25, 1966, in Boston, Massachusetts—a city he loved deeply and proudly called home. From a young age, Chenault found his passion on the basketball court at the Cooper Center, where the game became the foundation of his life, his purpose, and his legacy. He went on to play in the BNBL at the 15-19-year levels, building lifelong bonds and memories along the way.
At Don Bosco High School, Chenault proudly wore jersey number 50, carrying himself with strength, humility, and determination. His basketball journey continued through AAU competition with BABC, followed by college ball at San Bernardino College. He later attended Northeastern College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree while continuing to play the game that shaped him.
Though basketball opened doors, it was Chenault’s heart that defined him. Known by many as a “gentle giant,” he devoted his life to mentoring children and young men, using basketball as a tool to teach discipline, confidence, and self-worth. He believed in his players long before they believed in themselves.
Chenault coached at several colleges in the Boston area and at camps across the state and beyond. Wherever he went, he left a lasting impression—not just as a coach, but as a role model, leader, and friend. A champion in all that he did, he gave everything to his community. In his final years, he worked for the City of Boston, where he was deeply loved and respected by all who knew him.
Chenault was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jeanette Terry, and his grandmother, Ollie Terry, whose love helped shape the man he became.
He leaves behind a family who adored him: his aunt, Ruthie Mae Terry; his brothers, Michael Terry and Larry Blue; his cousin, Louisa Blue and family; and his devoted partner of 35 years, Monalisa Campbell. He also leaves behind his stepsons, Collin and Chazz; his precious grandchildren, Cristal, Colleen, Calissa, Caleah, and Chazz Jr.; his lifelong friends, Tony Bogarty and Terry Walker; and his cherished Cooper Comets family.
Chenault’s legacy lives on in every life he touched, every lesson he taught, and every young person who found confidence because he believed in them. He will forever be remembered for his strength, kindness, and unwavering love for the game, his family, and his community.
