It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Cheree Ann Kateley, who departed this life on September 12, 2026, at the age of 42.
Cheree was born on May 20, 1984, in San Diego, California, to Kim Kateley and the late Tracy Kateley. From an early age, Cheree possessed a loving spirit, a compassionate heart, and a deep devotion to her faith and the people around her.
Cheree grew up in Molalla, Oregon and later resided in Brockton, Massachusetts. Throughout her life, she worked many years as a PCA/ homemaker, were she had fabulous patients. She bartended locally and coordinated private events. She held her head high strong in ambition to earn a doctorate degree in theology, seeking to lead a life guided by faith and set a strong example of her love for her family in Jesus Christ.
Above all, Cheree was an amazing and devoted mother to her beloved children, Ciana, Lydia, and Jared, who were among the greatest blessings of her life. Her love for her children was unconditional, and she cherished every moment she shared with them. Her presence, guidance, strength, and love will forever remain a part of who they are. She loved them dearly and prided herself on making their birthdays special and going above and beyond for them. She loved them to the "Moon and Back."
Cheree was also a loving sister to Cherish Kateley and Lila Montanez, and a cherished sister-in-law to Jean Montanez. She leaves behind her loving mother, Kim Kateley, and stepfather, Tony Fernandes Jr., along with her siblings, extended family, and a host of relatives, friends, and members of the community whose lives were touched by her kindness and generosity. To her family and friends, she was a treasured presence who loved fiercely and stood loyally by those she cared about. She left a lasting impression on everyone she met, and her memory will be deeply cherished.
Cheree shared many nieces and nephews. Kids always flocked to Cheree for her humor and her own inner-child always stayed in her. She will be missed beyond measure.
Cheree’s faith was a central part of her life and the foundation upon which she served others. She devoted herself to ministry, becoming known and honored in her faith community as Dr. Cheree A. Kateley. Through her ministry and her personal example, she sought to encourage, uplift, and bring hope to those around her. Her faith, wisdom, compassion, and willingness to serve others left a lasting impression on everyone blessed to know her.
Cheree had a remarkable ability to make others feel loved, valued, and welcomed. Her presence brought warmth to those around her, and her memory will live on through the lives she touched, the lessons she shared, and the love she gave so freely.
Cheree was preceded in death by her beloved father, Tracy Kateley.
Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she gave and the legacy she leaves behind will continue to live on through her children, family, friends, ministry, and community. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all those who were blessed by her presence.
The family welcomes those who knew and loved Cheree to join them in gathering for the funeral services on Friday, September 25, 2026 and asks those attending to wear black, white and royal purple.
May her memory forever be a blessing, and may she rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
