Cristina (Canuto) Fortes

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Cristina Fortes, who peacefully departed this life surrounded by the love of her family. Cristina was born on March 13,1945, in Fogo, Cape Verde, to the late Manuel Silva and Ana Canuto.

Cristina was the beloved wife of the late John Fortes, with whom she shared a life rooted in love, family, and devotion. She was a dedicated and hardworking woman who spent many years as an assembly line worker for Joseph Pollock before retiring.

Above all else, Cristina cherished her family. She was a loving mother to Domingos Alves, Ana Moreira, Ivone Pereira, and Valta Pereira. She was also a proud and devoted grandmother to Alexander Amado, Alisha Amado, Jason Moreira, Anthony Alves, Claudio Alves, Claudino Alves, Zenilda DeBarros, Zenildo DeBarros, and Ariana Pereira. She was especially blessed to become a great-grandmother to her beloved Luna Sophia Alves, who brought her immense joy.

Cristina will be remembered for her strength, kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for her family. She touched the lives of many through her warm heart, gentle spirit, and the care she showed to everyone around her. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and faith that will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great-granddaughter, extended family, friends, and the community who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at George Lopes Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass celebrating Cristina’s life will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Saint Edith Stein Parish. Interment will immediately follow at Melrose Cemetery.
