David L. Payne

David Lee Payne was born January 29, 1959 to Paul and Odessa Payne Sr. of Tipton County, Tennessee. He peacefully departed this life on April 27, 2021. He was the eighth of nine children.

David attended St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Atoka, Tennessee in his earlier years. He graduated from Brighton High School in Tennessee. He played basketball in high school.

David migrated to Boston and worked for several years with Travelers Insurance in the early 70’s. He also was a maintenance supervisor at the Bayside Expo center for many years. He was faithful in calling his family on holidays and their birthdays to send his well wishes.  He loved watching sports and movies. He loved his family and to babysit his nephews when they were younger. All he needed was a TV and a kitchen full of snacks.

David fondly talked about his daughter Chante Bodley (daughter of the late Edwina Bodley), her siblings Edrick, Chicora and his grandson Caiden Berry.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Odessa Payne; three siblings James Edward (Sonny Man) Payne, Eunestine Cobb, Gloria Johnson and two brothers-in-law’s.
He leaves to cherish his memories: five siblings; Lee Ella Stepney and Lorine Payne, Chicago, Illinois; Paul (Mildred) Payne, Boston, Massachusetts; Carl (Joyce) Payne Sr. and Patricia Harper, Millington, Tennessee, Chante, Edrick, and Chaicora Bodley of Boston, MA, 7 grandchildren, 1 great grand daughter and a host nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
