Derek Veazy Obituary

In Loving Memory of Derek Lamont Veazy

Derek rested on February 16, 2025, at the age of 47. He was a cherished Son, Father, Brother, Nephew, Grandson & Friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Born on May 8, 1977, in Boston, MA, to Jacquolyn Payne Veazy and Stanley Veazy Sr. he led a life full of great family memories. He displayed plenty of compassion for his loved ones, lots of laughs. and touched the lives of many. Derek was always the helper and giver, which made him the number two to your number one. Growing up with his parents Jacquolyn Payne-Thompson & Errol Thompson Sr. (Stepfather), they made sure he stayed active during his junior and adolescent years.

Since he was young, he found much enjoyment with the outdoors, adventures in the forest and mountain bike riding. This led him to explore other creative avenues with Boy Scouts & Choir at Charles

Street A.M.E. Church (Where he was baptized by Rev. Donald C. Luster). He was an active member of the Historic Boston Equal Rights League Inc., which also created other volunteer work with candidate campaigns organizations in the greater Boston community at-large in the city and statewide of Massachusetts. This prompted a community service award, which was one of the grateful milestones of his life. He loved the world of art which made him a best kept secret & exceptional artist.

During the special year of 1996 Derek graduated from High Park High School. Curtis D. Wells principle. He then proceeded with his aspirations of higher learning, attending Mass Bay Community college. From there his area of study was Architecture Design during the years 1996-1997. He knew that he would gravitate towards this field, like his dad Stanley Veazy Sr. did. A few of Derek's favorite jobs were construction and cooking. These areas of employment gave him comfort knowing that he was doing what he loved.

Derek leaves behind his mother Jacquolyn Payne-Thompson, grandmother Idella Payne, his son Atreyu Raye Veazy, brothers Errol Thompson Jr., Stanley Veazy Jr., sister Francis Veazy & stepsister Tiffany Kostopolous. Including his nieces & nephews Dewjuane Veazy, Alijah Veazy, Darnel Jean-Louis, Elise & Elora Thompson, Noemi Thompson, Ashanae Veazy, Armani Veazy & Aaliyah Veazy, and Anton. He will also be missed by a plethora of aunts, uncles & cousins. We take comfort in knowing that Derek’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

 Derek always likes this quote:

“God is good all the time, he is the truth the light and the way”

“WE ALL LOVED HIM, BUT GOD LOVE HIM BEST”

Cherokee saying "donadagohvi" (until we meet again)
