Ebony Atara Barner (49) of Boston, Massachusetts transitioned into eternal peace on November 22, 2024. Ebony was born on May 14, 1975, to Mr. James L. Barner and the late Mrs. Betty Barner in Boston, Massachusetts.
Ebony attended Lexington High School and graduated in 1993. Afterwards, she attended Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, where she completed prerequisite classes to help further her academic and professional accomplishments. She worked a host of experience-rewarding jobs, where she built many friendships and opportunities that contributed to her growth.
Ebony met and fell in love with Mark Sheriff Sr shortly after graduating high school. From their beautiful union, they were blessed with a son, Mark Sheriff Jr in 1997. Shortly after the birth of Mark Jr, the two were happily married in 2001.
Ebony began working for Amtrak in 2003. She started off as a Lead Service Attendant and then advanced to a cleaner in the mechanical department. She completed training, then was promoted to electrician in 2007 and dedicated her final years in life to this role and her teammates that has become family.
Ebony had an extraordinary ability to find happiness in her daily activities and find humor in the most mundane life circumstances. Her pleasant personality was contagious to everyone she met. She took pride in her cooking skills, her love and passion for old school music, her spirit of togetherness for her family and friends, and becoming a proud member of the LGBTQ community. Her compassionate heart captivated everyone who had the chance to know her.
Ebony leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving son, Mark Sheriff Jr., father, James L. Barner, fiancé, Iraida Myles, sister, Rosalind D. Barner-Bogues, brothers, James K. and David W. Barner, as well as a host of nieces and nephews, her beloved dog, buddy, special relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly.
