Egidio “Gigi” Fidalgo Barros was born in Fogo, Cabo Verde, to Quilda and Domingos Barros. The sixth of twelve children, Gigi quickly learned to thrive among his older siblings. He was obedient, helpful, and always ready to lend a hand to his parents with errands around the house.
At the age of twenty, Gigi emigrated to Boston with his younger brother, Bartolomeu (Tumeu), to join their older brother, Faustino (Tatino) and parents who were already in Boston. Later the rest of the family joined them.
One summer, while on vacation in Cabo Verde with his mother, Gigi met the love of his life, Maria “Goreth” Barros. On July 18, 1983, they were married. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children, Eric Lobo, Cynthia Barros, Bianca Barros, and Gido Barros. They instilled in them the same values of faith, love, and family that guided their own life. Their lives were further enriched by the love and presence of Tanya Lobo (Eric’s wife), Kahlene Williams (Cynthia’s fiancée), and Alison Rivas (Gido’s fiancée).
Gigi lived a full and purposeful life. He was an entrepreneur at heart and was never afraid to try something new. Over the years, he ran a bodega, owned several dry-cleaning franchises, and helped his wife start her own childcare business. Nothing was too hard for him. He gave his all to everything he did, and his dedication and determination led to great success.
Above all, Gigi took immense pride and joy in his family. They meant the world to him. He never missed an occasion to spend time with them, and it was the honor of his life to be the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren: Eric Lobo Jr., Ethan Lobo, Kamryn Williams, Evan Lobo, Kai Williams, Grayson Barros, and Kahmai Williams. His grandchildren brought him endless joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Gigi never missed an opportunity to share a story or a joke. He could make anyone laugh. His warmth and humor defined him wherever he went, and people will always remember his smile. If you were having a bad day, it quickly turned around in his presence.
Gigi loved God with all his heart. He was a proud member of the St Patrick Church choir and never missed an opportunity to praise God through song. His faith sustained him through some of the more difficult times of his life and allowed him to keep smiling through it all. He knew that God would never abandon him or his family and he had a strong devotion to Our Lady of Fatima.
On October 8, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family, Gigi passed away peacefully. He leaves behind his ten siblings (having been preceded in death by his older sister, Irma Antonia Fidalgo Barros), numerous nieces and nephews, countless cousins, and an infinite number of friends. He will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart, and gentle humor. Gigi will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on through his wife, children, grandchildren, and all who were blessed to love and know him
