We celebrate the life and legacy of Elvia Payne, who passed away peacefully on February 10, 2026, in Boston, MA at the age of 76.
Elvia was born on December 24, 1949, in Panama City, Panama to the late Samuel Silcott and Ivy Louise Green. From an early age, she demonstrated compassion, strength, and a deep sense of purpose, qualities that would guide her throughout her life.
She was the beloved wife of Joseph Payne Sr., and a devoted mother to Ivy Payne, Joseph Payne Jr., Alfonso Payne, and Jennifer Payne. Elvia found her greatest joy in her family. She was a proud grandmother of seven and a cherished great-grandmother of one great-grandchild, treasuring every moment spent with them.
Elvia dedicated her professional life to education as a teacher at Elliot Educational Center. She was deeply committed to nurturing young minds and uplifting her community. Through her patience, wisdom, and encouragement, she inspired countless students and left a lasting mark on all who had the privilege of learning from her. Beyond the classroom, she was known for her kindness, generosity, and unwavering support of those around her.
Elvia leaves behind her loving husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchild, extended family, dear friends, colleagues, and the many students whose lives she helped shape. Her legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to live on in each of them.
Service Information
A viewing will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by the funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Greater Love Tabernacle Church, 101 Nightingale Street, Boston, MA 02124.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
