Ernest Columbus Gray Jr.

Ernest C. Gray Jr, A lifelong resident of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away on January13, 2026 in Newton, Mass.

He was the son of Eugenia C and Ernest C. Gray Sr. of Macon Georgia.

Known to his siblings as "Junior". Ernest was a graduate of Boston Trade high school and a dedicated member of the Allied Painters Union up until the beginning of 2025.

He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to his craft and took pride in providing for his family. 

Ernest was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is survived by his loving wife Janice of 48 years. He leaves behind his sons, Ernest Dumas of Dorchester, Steven Smith of Boston, and his stepdaughter, Taurus Smith. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kiaundra Dumas, Deonte 'Dumas, Emir James Dumas, Shawntae Oliver, Mya Smith, Tyrone Smith, Derrick Young Jr, Masai Taylor, Aamir Taylor. Ernest is also survived by his siblings: Richard Ford of Boston, predeceased by his wife Paulette, Deborah Ross-Cody, of Brockton, predeceased by her husband Richard, Brenda S. Gray of California, Lisa M. Gray-Tate and Her Husband Derrick of Brockton, Mass.

He Also leaves numerous Nieces, Nephews and Cousins.

Ernest will be remembered for his dedication to his family and friends, his funny sense of humor and the lasting impact he had on EVERYONE who entered his circle.  He will be truly missed.
