Evelyn Carty Obituary

Evelyn Gaynor was born in Runaway Bay, St Ann, Jamaica on the 5th of May 1927 to Barry Gaynor and Matilda Johnson. She was the eldest of five siblings.

She was raised by her grandmother and grandfather who named her Rosie.

Rosie attended school in Runaway Bay and studied House Keeping. After school she worked as a housekeeper in a guest house in Runaway Bay.

She met and fell in love with Leonard Bloise and that union produced one daughter, her only child Veronica Bloise born on 24th April 1947.

Rosie continued to live in Coxheath, Runaway Bay until she migrated to the USA in 1967. She worked as a Housekeeper in Brookline for one year and then worked at Mass General Hospital for thirty years until she retired.

Rosie lived in Mattapan Massachusetts where she met the love of her life, Clifford Carty who she fell in love with and married in 19XX. Years later they moved to Boston. Rosie was close to her stepchildren, Cal-phor, Bernadine, Carol, Hesworth, her step grandchildren and Destiny who she would call, ‘pretty boy’.

Rosie was an active woman who would travel to Jamaica every two years. She visited England for the first time in 1982 to see her sister June, her daughter and her grandchildren. Rosie enjoyed her vacation as she was taken to all the sights in London. It was for a sad occasion when Rosie returned to the UK in the summer of 1998 for the funeral of her only child Veronica. But the family was happy to see her and spend quality time with her.

She loved to look the best and had to be the best. You would not find her without her wigs and her costume jewelry and when it comes to her dress code there is no one like her. Not to mention her hats.

Auntie Rosie was very nice and very kind to people, however, anyone who knew Auntie Rosie personally would experience her ‘pepper’ tongue, she would make me cry. When I got older, I was able to stand up to her, Auntie Rosie would say, “Me ah de old bull now and yuh a de young bull.” We shared so many precious moments. We were very close.

Aunt Rosie was a member of the Greenwood Memorial United Methodist Church in Dorchester and sang in the choir. After X years of marriage Carty sadly passed away in January 2018.

It meant a lot to her to have her grandsons, great granddaughter and a great- great- grandchild visit her in the USA. Aunt Rosie’s last trip to Jamaica was in August 2023 to her grand-nephew’s wedding. We can say she was the best dressed guest after the bride.

On the 19th of April, two weeks short from her 98th birthday Aunt Rosie passed away after a short illness. Aunt Rosie was the oldest living family member.

She leaves behind her sisters; Fay, Carol, Grandchildren Wayne, Richard and Simon, nine great grandchildren and one great- great grandchild, nieces, nephews and other family members. May she rest in peace.

I must take this time to say to a very special person, no other than Patricia Whitworth. I am forever in depth to her. She has been a daughter to Aunt Rosie. God place her in our lives at the right time. Thank you, Pat, and may the Lord bless you richly.
