Fortunato Soares

Fortunato “Nato” Soares age 90, loving husband of Paula (Lopes) Soares, passed away on Friday April 30, 2021 at his home in Brockton. Born on November 26, 1930 in Brava Cabo Verde to the late Jose and Rosa (Gomes) Soares. He immigrated to the United States in the late 60’s and became a citizen and worked hard for many years up until his retirement.

Nato was passionate about gardening. He not only grew his own flowers, fruits and vegetables but he also was a teacher to others in the community helping them become avid gardeners. Most of all, Nato loved spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Nato is survived by his daughters Maria Reed and her husband Michael Reed of Brockton, Louisa Soares and her husband Hopeton McGregor of Brockton and M. Cristina Soares of Quincy, his grandchildren Noah Duarte, Jaci Reed and Jai Pires all of Brockton, his sister Margarita Gomes of Brockton, his Brothers Aguinaldo Soares of Pawtucket, RI and Daniel Soares of Brockton.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Joao “Dacruz” Soares and Carlos “Cai” Soares.

He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he loved dearly.

Funeral from the George Lopes Funeral home, 647 Main St. Brockton, MA 02301 on Wednesday May 5th at 9:00am followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30am in St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street, Brockton. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Calling hours Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00pm
