Glenderan Nettles

Glenderan Williams was born on Friday, November 21, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, to the late Richard Williams, Jr. and Rosa B. Williams. She was the fourth of nine children and was raised in a loving family that instilled in her the values of faith, compassion, and resilience. She attended Northwestern Middle School and was a proud member of the first graduating class of William M. Raines High School in 1965.

A few years later after graduating from high school, Glenderan relocated to Boston, Massachusetts, where she began her professional career at Honeywell. Possessing a genuine passion for caring for others, she pursued a career in nursing. Through determination and hard work, she earned her college degree and later she graduated from nursing school, passed the state licensing examination, and earned her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license. She later continued her education and achieved her Registered Nurse (RN) license, dedicating her life to serving others with compassion and excellence.

She always remained closely connected to her hometown, returning frequently to spend time with family, friends and attend her high school reunions. She also had a love for traveling, especially taking relaxing boat cruises. Above all, she embraced life with enthusiasm and made the most of every opportunity to create lasting memories.

Some knew her as Glenda, however, she was affectionately known by family and friends as "Ms. Nettles" or simply "Nettles. To her brother Carl, she would always be affectionately known as “Jenny.” To her beloved grandchildren, she was lovingly known as "Nina," a title she cherished deeply. Her warm smile, candid personality, and contagious laughter had a remarkable way of making everyone she encountered feel welcomed, valued, and loved.

One of Glenderan's greatest joys was the extraordinary bond she shared with her granddaughter, who had been by her side since birth. Their relationship was rooted in unconditional love, unwavering devotion, and a truly inseparable friendship. Not to mention, she also held a special place in her heart for her sister, Gloria, always looking after her well-being with the same love, care, and selflessness she extended to everyone she loved. Her nurturing spirit, generous heart, and genuine compassion will forever be remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Her brother, Richard Williams, was truly her ride-or-die partner—a constant source of love, strength, and unwavering support throughout her life. Their bond was one of deep devotion, loyalty, and countless cherished memories.

Glenderan also treasured the lifelong friendships that enriched her life. She often spoke fondly of her childhood best friend, Barbara Walker, affectionately known as "Bobbie," of Jacksonville, Florida. She also cherished the enduring friendships she shared with Barbara Dixon of Boston, MA., and Joann Chislom-Richemond of Jacksonville, FL. These special relationships were a testament to the love, loyalty, and genuine connections she cultivated throughout her life.

On July 26, 2026, God saw fit to call Glenderan home and granted her eternal wings. While her earthly journey has ended, her legacy of love, kindness, and generosity will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Nettles; her parents, Richard Williams, Jr. and Rosa B. Williams; her brothers, Earl Williams and Roosevelt Williams; her sister, Jacqueline Williams; and her beloved daughter, Wanda L. Williams Lewis, sister-n-law Dorothy Williams.

Left to cherish her precious memory her devoted children; Lolita M. Williams-Lockett (Marvin Lockett) and Christopher G. Nettles; her cherished grandchildren, Tanejah M. Williams, Clementi H. Lewis III, symbolic grandchildren, Zariyah R. Williams and Sharod Lesley “Cubby” and her treasured great-granddaughter, Lauryn L. Tahadil. Her son-in-law, Clementi H. Lewis II; her sister-in-law, Rosa Jean Nettles; Cynthia Williams-Streeter, and Cindy Williams. Her loving siblings, Richard Williams, III, Carl Williams, Ricky Williams, and Gloria Williams; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

Glenderan will always be remembered for her vibrant spirit, candid nature, infectious laughter, and exceptional cooking. She possessed a heart full of kindness and generosity, always willing to give her last to someone in need without expecting anything in return. She had a forgiving spirit and consistently reminded those she loved that family is everything. Those words became more than advice—those words became the legacy by which she lived.

Her unwavering faith in God was the foundation of her life.
