With profound sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved Guilhermina “Djeny” Teixeira, who departed peacefully at home in Easton, MA, on March 31, 2025, at the age of 93.
Born in Mosteiros, Fogo, Cabo Verde, Djeny grew up in Vila Nova Sintra, Brava, where she built a life rooted in love, generosity, and faith. She was a guiding light to her family and community, raising not only her own children but many others who were blessed by her kindness and wisdom.
She was predeceased by her parents, Eugenio Rodrigues and Julia Teixeira; her siblings, Hugo Teixeira, Iva Monteiro, Augusto Teixeira, Francisco Teixeira, and Maria Teixeira; and her daughter, Ana Maria Teixeira, who passed away in infancy.
She is survived by her siblings: Joao Teixeira, Maria “Domingas” Andrade, Lucindo Rodrigues, Maria “Neivy” Andrade, Antonio Rodrigues, Marcelina Rodrigues, Joao Rodrigues, Julio Rodrigues, Clarinda Rodrigues, Maria Conceição Rodrigues, Eugenia Rodrigues. She also leaves behind her children: Alberto Teixeira, João Carlos Teixeira, Johnny Teixeira, Vinda Fernandes, and Julia Silva. She shared a lifelong friendship with her best friend, Idalina “Dai” Lopes, and loved Idalina’s son, Joao Alfredo “Fefe”, as her own.
Nha Djeny’s cherished legacy continues through her grandchildren—Jeanie Ribeiro, Nancy Teixeira, Nelson Fernandes, Marisela Teixeira, Nicholas Fernandes, Matthew Teixeira, Claudio Silva, Elvira Silva, Guilherme Silva, Jessica Lopes, and Jennifer Lopes—as well as 17 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by her beloved granddaughter, Veronica Teixeira.
Nha Djeny will be remembered for her generosity, her captivating storytelling, and the warmth she extended to all who knew her. Whether tending to her garden, sewing intricate designs, or preparing meals filled with love, she found joy in simple, meaningful moments. She had a gift for baking, filling her home with the sweet aromas of cakes, breads, and traditional treats that brought comfort and joy to everyone around her. Always quick with a joke, her sense of humor was just as nourishing as her food—bringing laughter and light into the lives of those who knew her. A devoted member of the Grupo São João Baptista, she dedicated much of her time and energy to serving others through the Padre Pio Gottin Charities and Miniso di Escola Materna in Brava, causes that remained dear to her heart.
In honoring her wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Padre Pio Gottin Charities (Venmo @padrepiogottin-charitiesinc or PO Box 7094, Brockton, MA 02303) and Miniso di Escola Materna (Venmo: @escola-materna or PO Box 7153 Brockton, MA 02303), ensuring that her legacy of care and compassion continues.
Though she is no longer with us in body, the love she shared, the lessons she taught, and the countless lives she touched will live on forever.
