James Anderson Obituary

Deacon James Edwin Anderson was born on August 12, 1938 to the late Ernest & Mittie (Gibson) Anderson in Dawson, Georgia. He was the youngest of nine siblings who have all preceded him in death.

He was married to Ethel “Susie” Anderson.  God blessed their union for over 50 years. Together they served The Lord with gladness. “Susie” preceded James in death.

After graduating from high school, James joined the Armed Forces by serving in the Navy. After that, he began a career in transportation.  He loved his job very much, so much that he repeatedly retired and went back to work in the transportation field.  This job gave him the ability to travel across the country making many friends along the way, which was also something that he loved.  He was no stranger to anyone that he would meet, always leaving a lasting impression on the lives that he touched.

James was an ordained Deacon and affectionately known as Deacon Anderson.  Serving under the guidance and leadership of Pastor James Ruffin of Sounds of A New Beginning, located in Dorchester, Massachusetts.  James was a great man of God, who loved the Lord.  His willingness to help and serve God’s people displayed his heart of gold. He was dedicated to the works of the Lord and he took his Deacon responsibilities very serious.

James was a loyal, fun and loving man with a free spirit who loved to laugh and to make others laugh. He always made his presence known and had a lot of knowledge and wisdom that he’d love to share with those willing to listen. He loved to cook and eat. He was a bit picky when it came to his meals, it had to be good, down home cooking for him to eat it. He was also known as, “Mister Fix it.” He loved to fix things, including cars. James spent a number of years as an active member of the Free Masons. During His final years, he was able to spend quality time with family, special friends and a dear long time friend Bertha Potts.

He leaves many children to cherish his memories, Angela Anderson Holley (Melvin), Rondeline Anderson, Deborah Anderson Bell (William), Wendell Anderson, Dana Smith (Demaris), James Smith, Christopher Smith, Renwick Holliday, Anthony Holliday, Donta Holliday all of Massachusetts. Patricia Davis-Wigfall (David), Shenette Garret, Jamie Hunter, all of South Carolina, and Donald Holden of Georgia.  A host of grandchildren, great -grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. James will truly be missed, but he will never be forgotten.
