James Melvin Riddick, of Boston, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Affectionately known by many as Richard, Dick, or Jimmy, James was born on February 22, 1939, in Princess Anne County, Virginia, to the late James Melvin Riddick and Doris Christian Riddick. He grew up in the Blackwater area and attended Princess Anne County Training School, later earning a certificate in Food Service Supervision from Laboure College in Boston, MA.
In 1967, James married the love of his life, Patricia (Alston) Riddick, and together they built a beautiful life in Boston. Their union was blessed with three children and a bond that endured for 59 years. Their love story was one of partnership, faith, and family.
James worked for many years in the food service industry, serving in various nursing facilities throughout the Brookline and Boston areas. Later, he transitioned to a second career and retired from Clair Motors in Dedham, MA.
James had a natural sense of humor that could brighten any room, and a lifelong passion for cars and sweets. He had a knack for storytelling and was always ready with a joke or memory to share. His love for his family was evident in everything he did. One of his most often repeated phrases was, “God has been good to me because I have the best wife and family I could ask for.”
He delighted in visits from his grandchildren, who brought him so much joy and pride. His face would light up every time they walked through the door.
In the later years of his life, James became a proud member of Morning Star Baptist Church, joining the Men’s Chorus, where he found fellowship, faith, and fulfillment.
James was predeceased by his parents, Dave and Doris (Christian) Riddick, and his sister, Brenda Riddick. He leaves to cherish his memory: His devoted wife, Patricia Riddick, his loving children: Kimberly Lewis, Marcia Riddick, Byron Riddick and James Riddick, his sisters: Dorothy Walston, Cheryll Wellington, and Elezinia Griffin, his beloved grandchildren: Bria Riddick, Chace Riddick, Lincoln Riddick, Lenyx Riddick, Xion Rondo, Angelo Richardson, Adrenia Cotton, Alona Clark and Amir Lewis-Glenn, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and cherished friends.
