João Lopes, beloved father, grandfather, family member, and friend, passed away surrounded by the love of those who knew him best. Born on December 15, 1959, in Fogo, Cabo Verde, he was the cherished son of the late Martinho Lopes and Antonia DePina.
João will be remembered for his warm heart, generous spirit, and deep devotion to his family. He found great joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends. Whether gathered for celebrations, sharing stories, or simply enjoying each other's company, João treasured the moments spent with those he loved.
A passionate sports fan, João was a devoted supporter of the New England Patriots and rarely missed the opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. His enthusiasm, sense of humor, and love for life left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He leaves behind his loving children, Dulcelina DePina, Luis Brandao, Elson Lopes, John Lopes, and Nathan Lopes; and his nine cherished grandchildren. He also leaves many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his presence and remember him with love.
Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, Massachusetts.
A gathering service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at George Lopes Funeral Home. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery in Brockton, Massachusetts.
Though João's presence will be greatly missed, his love, strength, and the memories he created with family and friends will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
