Army Veteran Joe Gaddy, passed peacefully on February 24, 2020 at home in Brockton, Massachusetts, surrounded by his loving family.
After a protracted battle with cancer, Joe Edward Gaddy passed away on February 24, 2020 in the comfort of his own home surrounded by his loved ones. He was the late husband of Dorothy L. Gaddy and leaves behind his son, Joe Gaddy Jr.; daughter-in-law, Marjon Tondravi; his daughter, Teresa Thomas; son-in-law, Silvester Thomas; Granddaughter, Alissa Souffront; great-granddaughters Amiyah Centeio and Jaylee Lima; and one surviving aunt, Mable Graham. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, in-laws, friends.
Joe was born on October 12, 1944 in Fayetteville, NC, to mother Bernice McPhatter, who predeceased him at a young age in her 20’s. He grew up in a large loving family with his predeceased brother, Garland Gaddy; raised and cared for by his, Aunt Chancey McPhatter. He was honored as a Veteran of the United States for his service in the Vietnam War from 1967-1969 till his was fully discharged in 1971. We remember him as a hardworking man, he woke up every day to go to work no matter what. He even tried to go to work in the Blizzard of 78, without even making it 100 ft. He returned home greeted by the sweet tone of his wife Dot, “Joe, now I told you ain’t nobody going to work today in no blizzard”. Joe loved and enjoyed being surrounded daily by his son, daughter, granddaughter, and great-granddaughters.
Visitation with family on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 11 am from George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
Celebration of Life Service will start at 12 noon also from the funeral home.
Joe will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Dorothy L. Gaddy at Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, MA.
