With profound sadness and deep love, we announce the passing of Jose Goncalves Da Graca, who entered eternal rest on June 28, 2026, in Brockton, Massachusetts, at the age of 95.
Jose was born on January 9, 1931, in Fogo, Cabo Verde, to his beloved parents, Joao Da Graca and Filismina Goncalves. Raised with strong values of faith, perseverance, and devotion to family, Jose carried these principles with him throughout his life. His quiet strength, generous heart, and unwavering love for those around him left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Jose was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ana Rodrigues Gomes, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and cherished memories. He was also reunited in eternal peace with his beloved children, Domingos Goncalves Da Graca, Faustino Goncalves Da Graca, Domingas Goncalves Da Graca, and Joao Goncalves Da Graca.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his children, Maria Rodrigues Goncalves, Fidelio Goncalves Da Graca, Antonio Goncalves Da Graca, and Fatima Goncalves Afonso. Jose also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his wisdom, kindness, and unconditional love.
Jose found joy in the simple blessings of life—being surrounded by family, sharing stories and laughter, and passing down the traditions and values of his Cabo Verdean heritage. His legacy is one of resilience, compassion, humility, and enduring faith. Though he will be deeply missed, his love and example will continue to live on in the generations that follow.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to pay their respects during the viewing on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301.
A Funeral Mass celebrating Jose's life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Edith Stein Parish, 71 East Main Street, Brockton, MA 02301. Following the Mass, Jose will be laid to rest at Melrose Cemetery.
Although our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that Jose's journey on earth was one filled with love, faith, and dedication to his family. May he rest in the eternal peace of God's loving embrace, reunited with those who went before him.
