Josefa Fernandes was born on February 10, 1923, to the late Manuel Brandao and Deolinda Barbosa Vicente in Fogo, Cabo Verde.

Josefa Fernandes is predeceased by her daughter Enunelda Raquel Brandao.

Josefa Fernandes leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Adriano Carvalho, brother Raul Rodrigues, three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, three great great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends who will cherish her memory.
