Luqman Ahmad Obituary

They ask thee about the (final) Hour - when will be its appointed time? Say: "The knowledge thereof is with my Lord (alone): None but He can reveal as to when it will occur. Heavy were its burden through the heavens and the earth. Only, all of a sudden will it come to you." They ask thee as if thou Wert eager in search thereof: Say: "The knowledge thereof is with Allah (alone), but most men know not."

(Holy Qur’an: Chapter 7, ayah 187)

The man, brother known to many as Luqman-Abdul-Haqq Ahmad, some remember him as Murray William Griffin and fellow Cantabrigians...Butch; took his last earthly breath April 20th 2020, after seventy-one years of a a life that was lived, tilled and planted so that he could harvest and feed his family and community the sweet taste of Freedom, Justice and Equality.
Luqman was the third eldest child and born August 2nd 1948, to his parents William Henry Griffin and Margaret Thames.  Raised in Cambridge, Massachusetts right along the iconic Western Ave, he was already apart of an instant community of African Americans who were hard working, neighborly, and who connected to each other like family.  His grandfather, Murray Thames from Sumter South Carolina, with whom he worked with in his famous Shoe Repair and Tailor shop, instilled a unwavering mindset of "do-for-self".
Luqman decided at an early age that he wanted to get busy with his work on earth, left high school without graduating and soon after decided to serve his country by joining the Marine Corp.  He received several badges and medals of accommodation for his expertise skilled work and later began his journey toward finding a better life for himself.
Luqman began by getting his "X" through the Nation of Islam and huge accomplishment for a young African American man lifting his status in this life.  From that experience he was led toward Al-Islam through the leadership of Imam Warith Deen Mohammed and he found light, he found meaning and he found out that he had the power to develop his own mind outside of what was fed in mainstream media and other systems of oppression.  He wanted to develop him mind through the word of G'd.  He was a long time member of Masjid Al-Qur'an in Boston, MA.  An avid supporter of education and the Clara Mohammed school system and often taught classes of his own through the Cambridge Community Television network.  He was the president of the Boston Dawah Committee and collectively was charged with the responsibility of spreading the message of religious freedom, of G'd's justice and the Equality of our birth rite.
Luqman is so dearly missed especially by his wife of 44 years 6months and 2 days.  They remained together and with each other through every challenge in life, through the good times and through sickness and health.  Through this union birthed his only child, his daughter Shahidah Ahmad.  Luqman leaves behind, his two brothers, Robert "Bobby" Thames and Edward "Bay" Griffin.  His sister Edith "Sue" Thames and nephew Aaron Thames and Anthony Griffin preceded him in death.
Along with those who will deeply miss him is his grandson Amiyr Ahmad, who shared a unique loving relationship that he will cherish the rest of his life.  His nieces: Christine "Robin" Thames, Cora Thames, Tanya Thames and Santiago Damaia and the many great nieces and nephews: Shadah Thames, Terrance Thames, Azianna Simmons and a host of great nieces and nephews.
~Please continue to keep our beloved Luqman Abdul-Haqq Ahmad close to your heart and in your prayers as we bid him farewell and celebrate his entry into his abode of Paradise.  May he be reunited with his family in the next life.  Allahu Akbar.  WE LOVE YOU~
