Lynne E. Worrell-McCray was born in Boston, Massachusetts to James and Lucy Worrell on November 16, 1956. She was the fourth of six children. Lynne moved to the Bromley-Heath Housing Development in Jamaica Plain at an early age and attended Boston Public Schools. She resided in Bromley-Heath, which is now the Mildred C. Hailey Apartments, until her passing.
Lynne was a kind soul with a huge heart. She had a thousand-watt smile that would light up a room. She had friendships spanning over decades that she held near and dear. Her home was the hub for food gatherings and spur of the moment card games. She always enjoyed cooking for, and entertaining, family and friends. She also enjoyed creating photo books to preserve memories. Her most favorite past time was hanging out with her grandson JJ (that she waited so long for!)
Lynne was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts-Department of Conservation and Recreation for over 35 years. Throughout her tenure, she held multiple roles and was considered a valuable employee of the department. She was excited to retire in 2015, allowing her to spend more precious moments with JJ.
Prior to her passing, Lynne’s health slowly declined. Lynne passed away peacefully surrounded by family members on the evening of September 10, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents James, Sr. and Lucy Worrell as well as her brother, James E. Worrell, Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Jaylila R. Thompson, son-in-law John Thompson, and grandson John Julian (JJ) Thompson of Mansfield, MA. She is also survived by siblings Charlene Coble of Dorchester, MA; David E. Worrell of Dorchester, MA; Mark A. Worrell of Minnesota; Laura J. Worrell of Jamaica Plain, MA; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The family of Lynne E. Worrell-McCray would like to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude for your support, prayers, visits and all acts of kindness during this time.
