With deep sorrow and enduring love, we announce the passing of Manuela Araujo Avelino, who departed this life on April 15, 2026, in Boston, Massachusetts.
Manuela was born on September 26, 1963, in Praia, Cabo Verde, to the late Manuel Jose Avelino and Felisberta Depina Araujo. She carried the warmth, strength, and generosity of her roots throughout her life, touching the hearts of all who knew her.
A woman of quiet strength and boundless compassion, Manuela dedicated herself to caring for others. In her later years, she worked as a homemaker, creating a home filled with love, comfort, and tradition. Prior to that, she devoted much of her time to volunteering at the Cape Verdean Association in Brockton, where she took great pride in supporting her community. Her faith was an important part of her life, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand at church. Known for her giving spirit, Manuela found joy in serving others, whether through her kindness, her presence, or the meals she lovingly prepared. Cooking was one of her greatest expressions of love, and her kitchen was a place where family and friends gathered, laughed, and felt cared for.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her cherished daughters, Kelline Lopes Depina and Kelly Lopes. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Kalicya Antunes, Klayton Depina, Anthony Depina, and Jeremiah Lopes Mendes, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. She also leaves behind a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply and remember her always.
Viewing hours will take place on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at George Lopes Funeral Home, located at 647 Main Street in Brockton, Massachusetts.
A funeral Mass will be held the following day, Thursday, April 23, 2026, at 10:00 AM at St. Edith Stein Parish, located at 71 East Main Street in Brockton.
Interment will follow at Melrose Cemetery, where Manuela will be laid to rest.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, her lessons and her spirit remain forever in our hearts.
