Marcus Jeffrey Wells

It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Marcus Jeffrey Wells, a beloved father, brother, uncle, family member, and friend.

Marcus Jeffrey Wells was born on January 13, 1961, to the late Jeffrey and June Wells. Marcus attended Sharon High School before graduating from English High School, affectionately known back in the day as “the E.”

Marcus was a true lover of sports, with basketball holding a special place in his heart. His favorite player was the legendary Julius “Dr. J” Erving, whom Marcus admired so much that he often tried to imitate his signature style of play—a sight that brought plenty of laughter and memories to those who knew him. Beyond basketball, Marcus enjoyed playing pool and roller skating, always finding ways to have fun and enjoy life.

Marcus also had a deep passion for martial arts and was an avid admirer of the legendary Bruce Lee. His love for Bruce Lee was so strong that posters of him covered the walls of the bedroom Marcus shared with his younger brother, Gary.

Music was another important part of Marcus’s life. He was a devoted fan of George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic, affectionately known as P-Funk. One of his favorite songs was “One Nation Under a Groove,” a song that perfectly captured the energy and spirit he carried with him.

Marcus was also known for his incredible sense of humor and his ability to come up with memorable sayings. He was affectionately dubbed a “quote specialist” by those who knew him. During pick-up basketball games, whenever someone got their pocket picked, Marcus would jokingly call out, “Lunch money!”—one of the many expressions that became part of the memories shared by family and friends.

Marcus was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Jeffrey and June Wells.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Shantell and Marcus; his brothers, Gary and John; his nephews, Gary and Christian; and a host of loving family members, his extended Mattapan family, and countless friends who will forever remember his humor, personality, passions, and unforgettable spirit.

Marcus will be deeply missed, but the memories he created and the laughter he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
