Margo Loryce Hughes Caraway

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Margo Loryce Hughes Caraway on June 18, 2026, at the age of 84.

Margo, also known as Twiggy, was a person whose spiritual journey was shaped by both Baptist and Muslim influences. She lived a life driven by faith, purpose, and love. Margo believed in the power of prayer, serving others, and remaining devoted to God. Through her faith, family, and community, she touched the lives of many, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and strength.

Margo was born on February 4, 1942, in Philadelphia, PA to Edna Williams (Daughter of Josephine and Napoleon Williams) and Maceo Leon Hughes. She spent her early years as a ballerina dancing alongside Lola Falana. As she grew up, she found a love for riding motorcycles, beach bumming and cooking. Never met a hot dog that she hasn’t liked. Her free-spirited nature pushed her to be the life of the party. She even found herself hanging with Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.

Throughout her life, Margo was known for her wit, intelligence, sarcasm, and sense of humor, as well as for the positive impact she made. Margo dedicated many years as a Doula delivering generations of children at Cibley & Cibley. She attended Dr. Shea’s class in UMASS Boston alongside her son-in-law, Roscoe. In 1995, she received her license in Substance Use.

She went on to work as a Care Specialist at Pelham Academy, Bristol Lodge Family Shelter, and Homebase Battered Women’s Shelter. Above all else, Margo’s greatest accomplishment was her only child, her boo, Julie. She poured her love, strength, and devotion into motherhood and cherished her as her life’s most meaningful blessing. Together, they faced life’s challenges side by side and overcame adversity with resilience and grace.

Margo found great pride and joy in witnessing Julie’s growth, strength, and many accomplishments, each one a reflection of her love and dedication as a mother. Margo leaves behind more than memories—she leaves behind a trail of patchouli in the air, stories that will be told and retold for generations, and the smooth sounds of Sade playing on the radio. Her presence was unmistakable, her spirit unforgettable, and her love and laughter will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Margo is survived by her beloved daughter, Julie; her son-in-law, Roscoe; her goddaughter, Arianne; her great-godchildren, Brianna, Armani, Aiyanna, Nevaeh, and Keshaan; her great-great godchildren, Aura, Phenix, and Ayla, as well as Annmarie, Trinece, Tahia, and Alicia, along with a host of extended family members and dear friends who will continue to carry her love and legacy forward.
