.
Maria was born in the Island of Brava, Cabo Verde, on December 2, 1936. She was the eldest of three children of Mathilde (De Pina) and Joaquim Lopes-DaSilva. She grew up in the Island of Santiago, in Achada Falcão, Santa Catarina with her family until she married the love of her love life, Jose in 1954. To forge a better life for her family, in 1960, she immigrated to the United States to await the arrival of her husband and son. Upon their arrival to the US, they continued to grow their family and together worked hard, raised their family and celebrated a loving marriage of 66 years.
For 40 years, she worked as seamstress at State Coat Front Company where she produced jacket linings for the United States Air Force. Maria enjoyed spending time with her family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and on occasion, she would treat those present, with the sound of her beautiful voice singing along with her husband as he played the accordion at home.
Maria was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who led a quiet life and found her strength relying on her Catholic faith and devotion to God and the Virgin Mary. She will be fondly remembered as a sweet and gentle soul.
Maria was predeceased by her husband, Jose Dos Reis, her sons, Manuel and Antonio Dos Reis and her sister, Domingas Miranda. She is survived by her son, Domingo (Mingo) Dos Reis, and daughter, Matilde (Mattie) Dos Reis. She is also survived by her granddaughters, Marlise and Monee Dos Reis; sister, Angela Gomes, cousins and countless nieces and nephews who adored her and loved her.
