Maria Jose Gomes

Maria Jose Gomes, 96, passed away peacefully at home in New Bedford on December 10, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on June 23, 1929, in Fogo, Cabo Verde, she was the devoted daughter of Domingas Lobo Gomes.

Maria was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Miguel Lobo Gomes, with whom she shared many cherished years of marriage.

A woman of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering dedication to her family, Maria spent her later years as a loving homemaker. Her home was a place of comfort—filled with warmth, kindness, and the traditions she carried with her from Cabo Verde. She touched countless lives with her generosity, wisdom, and gentle spirit.

Maria leaves behind her only child and devoted daughter, Ana Amelia Gomes; her adored grandson, Joao Miguel Ramos; and her precious great-granddaughter, Anabelle Goncalves Ramos, who brought her immense joy. She is also survived by a host of loving family members and lifelong friends who will miss her dearly and remember her with affection and gratitude.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 5–8 PM at Aubertine-Lopes Funeral Home, 129 Allen Street, New Bedford, MA 02740. Her funeral service will follow the next day, Thursday, December 18, 2025, beginning at 10 AM at the New Bedford Portuguese Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 413 Rockdale Ave, New Bedford, MA 02740. Maria will be laid to rest after the service at Pine Grove Cemetery, 1100 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford, MA 02745.

Maria Jose Gomes will be remembered for her boundless love, her deep devotion to her family, and the lasting legacy she leaves in the hearts of all who knew her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
