Maria Lopes

On Monday morning, July 20, 2020, Maria Lopes passed away peacefully at age 96 in her home surrounded by family. Survived by husband Augusto Barros, sons Augusto Lopes and Joao Barros, daughters, Audilia Fernandes, Ana Pires, Alice Barros, Maia Lopes and Maria “Mery” Barros, 27 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Born on November 23, 1923, in Fogo, Cape Verde, Maria lived a beautiful and simple life. She dedicated her time to raising her children before relocating to the United States to start her new life in Boston, Massachusetts. She spent most of her time helping raise and care for her grandchildren. Maria was a loving spirit, full of fierceness and personality.

She greatly enjoyed being surrounded by family and loved ones, sharing stories and bringing a smile to those around her. Maria was immensely proud of her family and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
