Mary Louis (Cain) Stampley

With profound love and gratitude, we celebrate the life and legacy of Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley, affectionately known by family, friends, and all who knew her as “Mama.” On July 5, 2026, at the age of 90, she peacefully entered into eternal rest in Boston, Massachusetts.

Born on October 24, 1935, in Bessemer, Alabama, to the late Louis Cain and Rocile Cain, Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley was a woman of remarkable intelligence, unwavering faith, and extraordinary compassion. Although she was accepted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), she chose instead to answer God’s calling to care for others through nursing. She enrolled at Boston College, whose nursing program was regarded among the finest in the nation, earned her degree in Nursing, and faithfully fulfilled that calling for more than twenty-five years. Whether caring for patients or comforting families, she served with grace, kindness, and dignity.

Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley was the beloved wife of the late Henry Stampley, with whom she built a life centered on faith, family, and service.

For more than fifty-four years, Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley faithfully served at Mt. Calvary Holy Church of America. She served as Head of the Nurses Board, directed the church’s food pantry ministry, and faithfully served as Secretary and Treasurer. Whenever the Boston church faced periods of transition, she was entrusted with overseeing its day-to-day operations, providing the stability, leadership, and faithful stewardship that kept the ministry moving forward. Though she carried many responsibilities, she never sought recognition. To her, every position was simply another opportunity to serve. Alongside her beloved pastor, whom she considered one of her closest friends, she devoted her life to strengthening both her church and her community with humility, generosity, and unwavering love.

To know Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley was to experience unconditional love. Lovingly known as “Mama,” she had the rare gift of making everyone feel like family. Gentle in spirit yet strong in character, she stood firmly for what was right while extending kindness, patience, and compassion to everyone she encountered.

If there was one phrase that captured Mama’s heart, it was the simple reminder she offered to anyone facing life’s burdens: “It’ll all work out.” Those four words reflected her unwavering faith in God and her belief that no trial was greater than His grace.

Mama found joy in tending her garden, caring for her church, and spending time with her family. Her kitchen became the heart of countless gatherings, where her fried chicken, coconut cakes, and pound cakes became family favorites. For many years, she lovingly baked six or seven cakes at a time to be sold in support of her beloved church, another reflection of her servant’s heart.

She enjoyed classic Western movies, traditional gospel music, and a good laugh with those she loved. Above all, she taught those around her to love unconditionally, persevere through life’s challenges, treat everyone with dignity and respect, and never lose faith in God.

Mama never measured a life by titles, possessions, or recognition. She measured it by service, faith, and the lives she could lift along the way. That is the legacy she leaves behind.

Mama was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Henry Stampley; her cherished daughter, Victoria Stampley; her beloved grandson, Yashua Amado; her beloved sister, Suzette Bolling; and her parents, Louis Cain and Rocile Cain.

Mother Mary Louis Cain Stampley leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving children; Bryant, Charlotte Amado-Stampley, Tyrone, Irwin, and Yolanda. Grandchildren; Corrie, Shakwan, Christian, Damian, Brandon, Jacob, Yolanda, Darian, Alexis, Evander, Danielle, and Marcus. She also leaves behind her brothers and sisters, along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, her cherished church family, dear friends, and countless others whose lives were forever blessed by her love.

Though our hearts grieve her absence, we rejoice in knowing that Mama’s race has been run, her work is complete, and her reward is now eternal. We find comfort in believing she has heard the words she faithfully lived her life to receive:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things: I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

Throughout her life, Mama reminded everyone she loved, “It’ll all work out.” Today, though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing those words were never spoken as wishful thinking, but as a testimony of her unwavering faith in God. Her life proved that faith, love, and service endure forever.
