Michael Jordan Obituary

Michael Eugene Jordan was born on May 28, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts, and was called home to be with the Lord on May 14, 2025. He was the beloved son of his father, the late Bishop Percy Eugene Jordan, and his mother, Ella Louise Jordan, and the youngest of eleven siblings. He was the loving husband of Irene E. Jordan for over 48 years and the father of Itaysha and Shayla Jordan, as well as a proud grandfather of Isaiah Michael Jordan. After the early loss of his parents, he was raised by his sister Muriel, who moved back to Massachusetts from Indiana to live on Waumbeck Street in Roxbury. She brought her family with her, including Michael’s nieces and nephews, who became like siblings to him. They were raised with a strong foundation and were immensely blessed by God. They drew upon the legacy of his father, Percy, a Barbadian who pastored Emmanuel Temple from around 1940 until his passing in 1964, instilling in the family a deep-rooted faith.

Michael developed a profound love for music during his teenage and young adult years at Emmanuel Temple, where he showcased his extraordinary talent for playing drums and various instruments. He graduated from Roslindale High School in 1974, and his passion for music led Michael and a few other close friends to form a band called the Rhythm Machine, performing at local venues and even making an unforgettable memory of being featured on WGBH’s “Say Brother” show in the 70s.

Pursuing his musical ambitions, Michael attended the Boston Conservatory of Music at Berklee. He then met the love of his life, Irene, in 1974 and married in 1976.  He embraced the responsibility of providing for his family while tirelessly working as a taxi driver and mailman. He then enjoyed a long career at the Destination DXL group in Canton, MA, where he dedicated 35 remarkable years to their distribution center. He often spoke fondly of his coworkers, grateful for their support over the years. He looked forward to going to work and remained committed until his recent passing.

Michael continued his walk of faith and was a member of Deliverance Revival Tabernacle under the leadership of Pastor E. I. Osborne, Jr.  He was ordained there as a minister of the gospel in 2017.  Michael was well-versed in the Bible and shared the word not only in the pulpit but also through social media, as he spread daily scriptures and wherever he had the opportunity to witness.

A man of integrity, Michael advocated for himself and others, always celebrating family and friends with heartfelt birthday wishes and acts of kindness. His love for history and nostalgia shaped his conversations, and his remarkable memory was a treasured quality. Every action reflected his deep-rooted faith in Jesus, as he consistently sought to live according to His words.

Michael is remembered fondly by his loving wife, Irene, and his daughters, Itaysha and Shayla, as well as his grandson, Isaiah. He is survived by his brothers, Hilton and Alfred, and his sister, Ruth (and her husband Joseph Oliver) and many cherished relatives and friends. The following Jordan siblings have passed away: Barbara, Neddie, Muriel, Verniece, Percival “Bob”, Herbert, and Joseph.

Michael has fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7).  Although we will miss him dearly, we know he is with the Lord.  Rest well, good and faithful servant.
