Rey Ortega Mercedes Obituary

Rey Ortega Mercedes (32) unexpectedly passed away on November 6, 2025.

Rey Ortega Mercedes was born on April 22, 1993, in Boston, Massachusetts to Jose Rosario and Ivelisse Mercedes Sosa.

Rey had his first job at the age of 14 for Boston Project Ministries working with kids, building gardens and parks, learning autobody repair, and even trying to master the perfect omelet. He was part of teen nights, The Spot, and Real-Life Bible study, where his curiosity always shone through.

For the past 8 years Rey worked for Block-by-Block nonprofit in Downtown Boston as a supervisor guiding others and more importantly helping keep the downtown area clean and safe. He built friendships and touched hearts of all he knew in ways that show by the overwhelming support the family has received in this difficult time.

Most importantly, Rey loved people and loved God. His humility, compassion, and care for others left a lasting mark on our neighborhood, and on all of our hearts.

Rey Ortega Mercedes leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife Karina Milano Martinez De Ortega, parents Jose Rosario, Ivelisse Mercedes Sosa, children Luz Arisbel Ortega Milano, Anyel Milano, siblings Anays Mercedes, Eli Smith, Felix Fernandez, and a host of relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
