It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Berry Jr. (82) of Boston, Massachusetts on April 13, 2026.
Robert Berry Jr., was the beloved son of the late Robert Berry and Louella Berry, born on April 6, 1944, in Memphis, Tennessee.
Robert Berry Jr. was raised in Memphis, where he attended Lincoln Elementary School and Hamilton High School. It was there that he met and married the love of his life, the late Davienet Berry. Their union of 38 years was one of deep commitment and family, and together they raised three children: Robert Berry III, Sherritta Berry-Cofield, and Sonya Johnson, along with son-in-law Chevall Johnson. In 1968, Robert relocated his family to Boston, Massachusetts, where he built a life and made the city his permanent home.
Over the course of his 83 years, Robert was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to take on many roles. His employment included work with the Central Railroad in Memphis, Peter Pan, Brush Hill, the Boston Public School Department, and as a school security officer. He also spent time driving a cab throughout Boston, a job that suited his outgoing nature and helped him form countless friendships. Always eager to learn, he also attended Roxbury Community College.
On September 29, 2019, Robert was ordained as a deacon at Greater Zion, a role he embraced with pride and devotion. He was a loving father who welcomed not only his children but also anyone they brought into his life. Known as a true social butterfly, Robert rarely went anywhere without his camera in hand, ready to capture memories. He had a well-known sweet tooth, a special talent for baking, especially his famous lemon pie, and a love for bowling, where he proudly participated in a league.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Davienet Berry, his parents Robert Berry Sr. and Louella Berry, and his sisters Ervella Tate, Eddie Geneva Madison, and Joyce Berry.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Robert Berry III, Sherritta Berry-Cofield, and Sonya C. Johnson, and two sons-in-law, Chevall Johnson and Richard Cofield; his six grandchildren, Kenneth D. Berry, Jamal M. Cofield, David L. Cofield, Mark Variste Jr., Timothy M. Cofield, and Sanyah Earl; and his six great-grandchildren, Kenaria D. Berry, Laelani M. Berry, Jakhi Cofield, Ross Kennedy Jones, Paul Marsh Jr., and Jamiyah Cofield. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
