Steven Miller Obituary

Steven Miller, a lifelong Bostonian, was born on January 19,1955 to the late Virginia Miller. While their mother worked hard to provide for her children, Steven and his siblings were fortunate to have their grandmother, the late Louella Butler, play an important role in their childhood and upbringing. Steven transitioned on May 18, 2020.

He grew up in the Jamaica Plain and Roxbury neighborhoods of Boston. He graduated from Jamaica Plain High School, where he enthusiastically supported the athletics program, and even successfully tried out for the football team. His passion for sports extended to the Boston Celtics, his favorite team.

Steven was well-liked and known by family and friends to be a fun loving person, with a laid back perspective on life. He never complained, but instead was always grateful and humble.

Steven dedicated his career to Lemuel Shattuck Hospital, where he served as a kitchen Aid for over twenty years. After retirement, he spent most of his time at home relaxing and watching his favorite television programs. He especially enjoyed summer gatherings, when the family would come together for cookouts.

When he needed a nursing assistant, Steven was very fortunate to find the perfect match in Priscilla, who meticulously cared for him and was considered a family member. Steven would watch the clock, patiently awaiting her arrival. “Snap your fingers. Move your legs. Lift one at a time. Put your hands in the air. Wave’em like you just don’t care,” she would often say, coaching him and making his exercising a fun experience. He enjoyed the music she used, especially songs by New Edition which always made him smile and laugh.

Steven is survived by his two brothers Wendell and Wayne (also known as Tarik), and his three sisters Malkia, Gina, and the late Priscilla. He loved all of his family, and had a special connection with his niece Shawnise, his nephew Stephen, and his late nephew Kamau.

In addition, he will be missed and remembered by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and many other family members and friends.
