Theora Lucille (Jackson) “Red Bird” Jones, a proud Mashpee Wampanoag, was born in Boston City Hospital on February 19, 1943, to Theora Tobey and Charles Jackson, and passed away peacefully on May 21, 2024, surrounded by her family.
Theora graduated from Girls High in Boston Massachusetts and married Willie L Jones in 1961 of Enfield, NC with whom she had seven children.
Theora spent her life taking care of children whether it was through her role as Secretary/Director of Academy of Musical Arts, as a foster mother to many, or as a lunch mother at Paul A Dever and McCormick schools in Boston. Prior to her role as Director Theora was also employed as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Miss Jones as the children called her was known as a loving, strict disciplinarian and confidant.
Theora was proud of her native heritage and made sure to reconnect with her Wampanoag family at the annual powwow. She was also a member of Twelfth Baptist Church and a pillar to the Harbor Point community for 55+ years.
Theora leaves behind her children Theora J. Jones, Rosezina Z. Jones, Willie L. Jones, Brian A. Jones (Nichole), Christopher C. Jones, Ester M. Ellis, Veronica M. Ellis, and her dear niece Dee Bowles, 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Theora was predeceased by her siblings Constance, Marie, Melvin, Priscilla, and Charles along with her adopted son/great-grandson Seneca.
