Vanessa Jones

Vanessa Renee Jones was born on March 31,1963 in Harlem New York at Harlem Hospital to Diana Jones and the late Leroy Bryant. Vanessa departed this life on Tuesday July 9, 2024, after a brief illness.

Vanessa attended both private and public schools in New York City. She worked as a secretary at Busy Bee Daycare. She also worked at Boston College. Vanessa continued to further her education at Massasoit College in Brockton, MA. Vanessa loved cooking and majored in Culinary Arts and graduated as a chef. She also attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, MA and received her degree May 3, 2019, in Hospitality. Vanessa was a devoted mother who loved and cherished sons Shawn and Ricardo. Not only did she love her sons, but she also extended it with a passion to her grandsons, Shawn Jr. that she raised along with her own son. Vanessa also has a grandson named Mekhi Graham and although, she did not have a close relationship with him she loved him dearly.

Vanessa received Christ and was baptized at Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop John M. Borders, III. Vanessa has always had the ambition to succeed. She had a passion and lots of love for other people’s children. Ness loved gaming (smile). She loved cooking for family and friend's events. Ness loved people. She was a kindhearted soul, filled with compassion for all. It was not unusual for her to offer help to anyone who needed it whether she knew them or not. As Vanessa dealt with her illness, she never trembled in her voice of fear. Vanessa was always hopeful even to the end. She had a peace and confidence in that prepared place that God has prepared for her and shared with her family that it was well with her soul.

For those of you who lovingly knew her as Ness, she was a very private person……she was her own person and within her own.

Vanessa fought a good fight. She kept the faith. She finished the race and finished strong! Henceforth, there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give her at that day. For sure, Vanessa has received her crown. 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

Vanessa was proceeded in death by her Father Leroy Bryant, her firstborn son, Shawn Flores Sr. Grandfather Freddie Jones, Grandmother Ida Lee Jones, Uncles Rev. Oliver Wendell Jones, Rev. Freddie Jones, Gloria Andrus, Ricky Jones and Rolanda Jones.

Those left to cherish her precious memory, her Mother Diana Jones, Son Ricardo McCoullum Jr. Grandsons Shawn Flores Jr. (Buddy), Mekhi Graham. Aunt and Uncles; Wanda Jones, Betty Adams, Hattie Pickney, Alfonso Jones (Rosa), Darnell Jones (Tanya), Cousins Derrick Jones, Ryan Jones, Jason (Meg) Olen Jones (Carolyn) and Beverly Jones; Close friend Jackie Johnson; Goddaughters Aryanah, Loretta, Tianna, Lil Jackie (Mookie), Kiev, Toni, Madison and Jada; Godsons Ross Kimberly and Gregory Davis. The children that grew up in her home over the years, as well as a host of relatives, family, friends and Running Buddy Ms. Roberta.
