Vernon DeVoe Jr. was born on October 11th,1949 in Boston MA to the late Vernon and Arline DeVoe, his paternal grandparents were Harry and Thomasina DeVoe (née Wiggins), and his maternal grandparents were Joseph and Mary Badgett (née Myers).
Vernon departed this life on Wednesday July 30th, 2025.
Vernon A.K.A. Uncle Brother was a happy child with loving parents and grandparents and the 2nd to the oldest of 4 siblings. He attended Boston Public schools and was raised in the Metropolitan Baptist Church where he gave his life to Christ. Vernon was a dedicated husband to the late Lena Freeman and to the late Linda Nesmith. He was a loving stepfather and uncle to his many nephews and nieces.
As a young man Vernon joined the Army and later worked for Boston’s MBTA as a bus driver. In 1997 Vernon was very ill and was blessed with a double organ transplant. He received a liver and kidney from a 19-year-old girl who died in a car accident. He was always thankful for his second chance on life. In 2001 he became a member of Fruitful Harvest Evangelistic Center of Hope church, where his sister Thomasina Minor-Hill was the pastor. He served as a deacon until her retirement.
He was preceded in death by his brother Calvin DeVoe Sr., his sister Thomasina Minor-Hill, and both his wives Lena Freedman and Linda Nesmith.
He leaves to mourn his brother Fredric DeVoe (Vealer), his nephews Clifford DeVoe, Troy DeVoe (Alexa), Harold Minor, Calvin DeVoe (Latisha), Albert Minor (Loretta), Merrick Rembert (Precious), his nieces Calvena DeVoe, Thomasina Minor Bogarty (Travis), Arlene Rembert, and many great nephews and nieces. He also leaves to mourn his four stepdaughters Hazel Freeman, Brenda Freeman, Charlotte Freeman, Nicole Freeman and grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends who loved him dearly!!
He had so many cousins, too numerous to name! And a host of friends!!
Deacon Vernon DeVoe Jr. you will be sorely missed!
