Virgil Glenn JR Obituary

Deacon Virgil Glenn departed this earthly realm and entered eternal rest on Monday, May 13, 2024. Virgil was born on April 5, 1942, in Winston-Salem, NC to the late Virgil and Willette Glenn. At an early age Virgil accepted Christ and continued to serve him until his last breath. Virgil attended Atkins high school and Winston-Salem State University where he played in the band. He then went on to join the U.S. Army. After serving a couple of years he decided to pursue his other dreams. His greatest dream was fulfilled when he met his wife, his beloved Essie. They were married on December 23, 1967, and were able to enjoy life together for 56+ years. To this union two children were born, Cheryl and Gordon.

In 1972 the family moved to Boston, MA to embark on their new life. The family joined the St. John Missionary Baptist Church. Virgil was ordained a Deacon on October 21, 1984, under the leadership of Rev. Rafe Kelly. Virgil gave his all in everything he did whether doing his deacon duties, directing his beloved Gospel Chorus, working with the scholarship committee, singing with the SANS choir, and being a father to the fatherless. Virgil began his career doing Sales, which he excelled in because he could easily relate to anyone in any situation. He eventually joined the Department of Public Utilities where he retired as a Dig Safe Inspector. His hard work, dedication, comedy, laughter, and compassion for people will truly be missed.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil & Willette Glenn, his sister, Marilyn Peterson, his aunt and uncle, Alexander and Ella Giles, grandson, Santino Pasley.

Those left to mourn his memories are his wife, Essie Glenn; His daughter, Cheryl (Charles) Tarver of Charlotte, NC; His son, Rev. Dr. V. Gordon (Rachel) Glenn III of Overland Park, KS; His Grandchildren, Christopher Pasley, Denver Glenn & Virginia Glenn; His Great-Grandchildren, Alexandria Barth and Mya Pasley. His nephew, Cedric (Laquanna) Glenn of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of cousins, bonus daughters, sons, and friends.
