Wetinella Dixon Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joy Dixon who departed this life on January 21st, 2025. Born in Maroon town Jamaica to Linden (Lyndon) A. Dixon and Joycent V. Thompson. Joy spent her early years living with her grandparents in Flam stead where she developed a love for life and a spirit of playfulness. Often enjoying games like netball, Joy cherished weekends in the countryside.

A proud graduate of Montego Bay Technical High School, Joy was active in her faith communities. First attending the Sabbath church and later becoming deeply involved with Faith Temple Assembly of God. She participated in the choir and youth of Christ group throughout her time. In 1975 Joy migrated to the United States first residing in New York before ultimately settling in Boston.

In Boston, Joy became a cornerstone of her community. Joy was instrumental in founding the Caribbean Culture Center (Three C’s) alongside her father and three other dedicated individuals. Joy’s commitment to service extended beyond cultural advocacy as she earned a degree in business administration at RCC (Roxbury Community College) and trained with the Red Cross becoming a certified nursing assistant/home health aide. Joy dedicated herself to Hospice care and providing compassion support to those in need. Joy also brought her talents to several local institutions, some include Bank of America, Bank Boston, Pioneer Bank, Citizens Bank, Woolworths of Downtown Boston, and Shaw’s Supermarket.

Joy was first a member of Saint Paul's Assembly of God visiting many churches throughout the city of Boston. Finally in 1993, Joy found her spiritual home at Grant A.M.E. church where she became a beloved member of the congression. On March 23rd, 2019, Joy received an award from the Lay organization of Grant A.M.E. in recognition of all the contributions she made to the church and community throughout her time as a member.

Throughout her life she embodied a spirit of generosity and was always ready to help others in any way, from shelter to words of encouragement and all in between. Joy always remined the ones she held close that they are loved no matter how she was treated in return. Joy had a passion for cricket, baseball, basketball, traveling, trying new things, word searches, romance books, reggae music, love for television, a commitment to reading the Bible, and sharing her faith/positive energy. These were hallmarks of her joyful existence.

Joy is survived by her Mother Joycent: Sisters, Paulette, Maxine, Sharon, Lisa, and Angie: Brothers, Alan, Tony Mike Paul and Orville: Son, Robert: Daughter-in-law Melissa: Grandchildren, Mia and Devren: Adopted sister Marlene: “Big Brother” Reverend Johnson: Deceased family: Father, Lindon: Brother, Edwin, church family, and a large extended family.
