Margaret was born in Talladega, AL on December 15,1945 to the late Geneva Jemison Scales and Willie Williams. She graduated from Morton high school where she was a majorette.
On Thursday, March 25, 2021 Margaret Brown, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away at the age of 75.
Margaret was previously married to James Bonner and had her three eldest children Latanya, James and William. In 1973 she relocated to Boston, MA with her children in hopes of a better life. While living in Dorchester, she met and married the love of her life and best friend Dave Brown. They had two children Natalie and David.
Margaret was an intelligent, fun-loving and hard-working woman. She was employed at major companies such as Joe Pollock and Raytheon. An opportunity presented itself and Margaret decided to start her own business as a licensed Child Care Provider. She took care of many children including her very own grandchildren as well as other family members. In her spare time, she loved to travel, enjoyed trips to the casino, participated in bingo events, playing spades and bid whist with her partner in crime Margie Scales-Jordan. Margaret grew up in an environment where family and holidays were important enough to travel from Massachusetts to Alabama and other states. Soon the traveling was replaced by her preparing and hosting every holiday at her home where she cooked amazing soul food for all to enjoy. While she prepared these feasts, it was a learning platform for her to share stories of being a strong woman and to provide words of wisdom and encouragement.
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents Geneva Jemison Scales and Willie Williams, her brothers Johnny Scales and Billie Joe Jemison, and her sister Fannie Mae Perry.
She is survived by her loving husband Dave Brown, her sisters Ivory Swain, Pauline Robinson and Minnie Scales, and brother Stanley Jemison. Children Latanya Jackson (Stanley), James Bonner (Jennifer), William Bonner (Florence), Natalie Finklea (Leon) and David Brown (Sarah), step-daughter Lisa Robinson as well as her grandchildren, James, Christina, Anita, Barry, Hakim, Bethany, Dana, Keon, Jada, Matthew, Damien, Laila, William, Seth, Nathan, Anthony, Dovoney and Shelley and her great granddaughter Ava, siblings Ivory Swain, Minnie Scales and Stanley Jemison and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
